Strong asymptotics in Lagrange interpolation with equidistant nodes

In this paper we prove three conjectures of Revers on Lagrange interpolation for f_λ(t)=|t|^λ,λ>0, at equidistant nodes. In particular, we describe the rate of divergence of the Lagrange interpolants L_N( f_λ,t) for 0<|t|<1, and discuss their convergence at t=0. We also establish an asymptotic relation for max_|t|1| |t|^λ−L_N( f_λ,t)|. The proofs are based on strong asymptotics for |t|^λ−L_N( f_λ,t), 0|t|<1.     

An extension of gap functions for a system of vector equilibrium problems with applications to optimization problems

In this paper, the notion of gap functions is extended from scalar case to vector one. Then, gap functions and generalized functions for several kinds of vector equilibrium problems are shown. As an application, the dual problem of a class of optimization problems with a system of vector equilibrium constraints (in short, OP) is established, the concavity of the dual function, the weak duality of (OP) and the saddle point sufficient condition are derived by using generalized gap functions. Duality theorems for convex problems with time delay

In this paper, we examine a class of convex problems of Bolza type, involving a time delay in the state. It encompasses a variety of time-delay problems arising in the calculus of variations and optimal control. A duality analysis is carried out which, among other things, leads to a characterization of minimizers in terms of the Euler-Lagrange inclusion. The results obtained improve in significant respects on what is achievable by techniques previously employed, based on elimination of the time delay by introduction of an infinite-dimensional state space or on the method of steps.     

Lagrangian Duality in Set-Valued Optimization

In this paper, we study optimization problems where the objective function and the binding constraints are set-valued maps and the solutions are defined by means of set-relations among all the images sets (Kuroiwa, D. in Takahashi, W., Tanaka, T. (eds.) Nonlinear analysis and convex analysis, pp. 221–228, 1999). We introduce a new dual problem, establish some duality theorems and obtain a Lagrangian multiplier rule of nonlinear type under convexity assumptions. A necessary condition and a sufficient condition for the existence of saddle points are given. The authors thank the two referees for valuable comments and suggestions on early versions of the paper. The geometry of Ingarden spaces

The Randers spaces RFⁿ were introduced by R. S. Ingarden. They are considered as Finsler spaces Fⁿ = (M, α + β) equipped with the Cartan nonlinear connection. In the present paper we define and study what we call the Ingarden spaces, I Fⁿ, as Finsler spaces I Fⁿ = (M, α + β) equipped with the Lorentz nonlinear connection. The spaces R Fⁿ and I Fⁿ are completely different. For I Fⁿ we discuss: the variational problem, Lorentz nonlinear connection, canonical N-metrical connection and its structure equations, the Cartan 1-form ω, the electromagnetic 2-form tF and the almost symplectic 2-form 0. The formula dω = F+θ is established. It has as a consequence the generalized Maxwell equations. Finally, the almost Hermitian model of I Fⁿ is constructed.     

A duality relation for busy cycles inGI/G/1 queues

Using a generalization of the classical ballot theorem, Niu and Cooper [7] established a duality relation between the joint distribution of several variables associated with the busy cycle inM/G/1 (with a modified first service) and the corresponding joint distribution of several related variables in its dualGI/M/1. In this note, we generalize this duality relation toGI/G/1 queues with modified first services; this clarifies the original result, and shows that the generalized ballot theorem is superfluous for the duality relation.     

Some inequalities for characteristic functions. II

Recently we established Matysiak and Szablowski's conjecture [V. Matysiak, P.J. Szablowski, Theory Probab. Appl. 45 (2001) 711-713] about a lower bound of real-valued characteristic functions. In this paper, applying an alternative approach we are able to give explicitly the ranges of argument for which the obtained inequalities hold true for general characteristic functions.     

Christoffel functions and mean convergence for Lagrange interpolation for exponential weights

For exponential weights, a necessary condition of weighted mean convergence for Lagrange interpolation is given.     

Optimal reconstruction of the solution of the wave equation from inaccurate initial data

In the present paper, we consider the problem of the optimal reconstruction of the solution of the wave equation from the approximate values of the Fourier coefficients of the function specifying the initial form of the string. For an operator defined on the weight space of vectors from l ₂, we present the solution of the more general problem of reconstruction from the approximate values of the coordinates of these vectors.     

Pro-torus actions on Poincaré duality spaces

In this paper, it is shown that some of the results of torus actions on Poincaré duality spaces, Borel’s dimension formula and topological splitting principle to local weights, hold if ‘torus’ is replaced by ‘pro-torus’.
